Press Release: Héctor L. Ramos-Vega Appointed as U.S. Magistrate Judge for the District of Puerto Rico

HÉCTOR L. RAMOS VEGA APPOINTED AS UNITED STATES MAGISTRATE JUDGE FOR THE DISTRICT OF PUERTO RICO

 

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO (October 20, 2023) - Chief Judge Raúl M. Arias-Marxuach and the Judges of the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico are pleased to announce the appointment of Héctor L. Ramos Vega as United States Magistrate Judge. Accompanied by his wife Dania Marie Díaz Maldonado and his parents, Magistrate Judge Ramos Vega was sworn in on October 20, 2023.

Judge Ramos Vega received his bachelor’s degree in Humanities, magna cum laude, from the University of Puerto Rico in 1999, and his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Western Michigan University Cooley School of Law, in 2002.

He began his legal career at the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico as a Law Clerk to U.S. Magistrate Judge Justo Arenas. Before his appointment as a magistrate judge, Judge Ramos Vega worked for almost 18 years at the Federal Public Defender's Office for the District of Puerto Rico ("Defender’s Office"). While at the Defender's Office, he served as an Assistant Federal Public Defender and held several supervisory roles, including First Assistant, a position he held until March 2023, when he was appointed Interim Federal Defender.
