On October 17, 2024, Chief District Judge Raúl M. Arias-Marxuach and Magistrate Judge Giselle López-Soler welcomed 39 students from Francisco Oller High School in Cataño to the Clemente Ruiz Nazario U.S. Courthouse. The students, from grades 10, 11, and 12, participated in the "Civil Discourse and Difficult Decisions" Program, which aims to promote civic education and engagement by allowing students to experience courtroom procedures and discussions on critical issues.
The event was supported by an esteemed group of volunteers and attorney coaches, including Magistrate Judge Héctor Ramos-Vega, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Gottfried, Assistant Federal Public Defender Vivianne Marrero, and civil attorneys María Dolores Trelles and Henry Freese. Their guidance helped the students navigate legal concepts and understand the importance of civil discourse in the judicial process.
