Upcoming Outreach EventsLAW DAY

The District Court for the District of Puerto Rico will be hosting an activity geared towards students in Department of Education and private schools between the fourth and sixth grades. The goal of the program is for students to learn about the work carried out in the courthouse and to create awareness on citizens’ rights and responsibilities. Visits to the schools by professionals who work at the courthouse, including judges, attorneys from the Public Defenders Office and the United States Attorney’s Office, as well as from federal agencies like the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Probation Office will be coordinated. They will briefly speak about their career trajectory and their role within the Court and answer questions from students.

The program will be offered at least once during the 2024-2025 school year. If you are interested in having your students participate in this activity, please notify us at your earliest convenience, by sending an email to heidi_pantoja@prd.uscourts.gov. Your email should indicate the approximate number of students that would participate in the activity. Participation will be confirmed based on the order in which the application emails are received.

CIVIL DISCOURSE AND DIFFICULT DECISIONS

The District Court for the District of Puerto Rico will be hosting an activity geared toward students in Department of Education and private schools between the tenth and twelfth grades. The goal of the program is to create awareness of the importance of civic responsibility in judicial processes and in human relations as a whole, and of deliberations in the decision-making process. Students will have the opportunity to visit the courthouse and discuss these matters with attorneys and judges, and will put into practice the skills discussed by participating in oral arguments and in the deliberation process based on fictional facts during a mock judicial proceeding.

The program will be offered twice during the 2024-2025 school year. If you are interested in having your students participate in this activity, you may notify us at your earliest convenience, by sending an email to heidi_pantoja@prd.uscourts.gov. Your email should indicate the date in which you would like to participate and the approximate number of students that would be participating. Groups of 25-30 students will be accepted and participation will be confirmed based on the order in which the application emails are received.
