Notice from the Clerk: No. 20-05:  Federal Appellate Practice and Procedure, Certifications to the Puerto Rico Supreme Court Continuing Legal Education (CLE) - March 3, 2020

The United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico will offer a three (3) hour seminar on the subjects of Federal Appellate Practice and Procedure and Certifications to the Puerto Rico Supreme Court. The same will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at the Clemente Ruiz Nazario Courthouse in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico. This is an extraordinary CLE opportunity for practitioners, to be offered at no charge to members of the Bar in good standing.

Honorable David J. Barron, United States Circuit Judge of Appeals for the First Circuit, and Honorable Rafael L. Martinez-Torres, Associate Justice of the Puerto Rico Supreme Court, will serve as the seminar lecturers. Space will be limited to 175 participants, with reservations on a "first come, first served" basis. Every effort will be made to obtain accreditation from the Puerto Rico Supreme Court's Continuing Legal Education Program for a 3.0 hour CLE instruction.

Requests for reservation will only be received through the Court's registration application. If you are interested in attending this extraordinary event, prior to submitting your registration application, be advised that:

  • You should click on the registration application link embedded in your e-mail invitation.
  • Each attorney must make his/her own reservation.
  • Attorneys must be in good standing to register (contact the Clerk's Office Cashier at 787-772-3061 to verify status).
  • Participants must commit to attend the entire event.
  • Only attorneys with confirmed seats may attend the event.
  • Registration for the event starts at 1:00 p.m. The program runs from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • The deadline to reserve is February 10, 2020, or until all seats are taken.
  • Attorneys with confirmed reservation who fail to attend must explain reasons in writing.
  • No telephone calls will be accepted.
  • This will be the only valid registration process for the CLE program.

After the reservation period has closed, the Office of the Clerk of Court will send a confirmation notice to registered attorneys with a reserved seat to the email address registered in the CM/ECF system. Any cancellations must be notified on or before February 20, 2020, to: prd-cle-registration@prd.uscourts.gov.
