In June 2025, the District Court of Puerto Rico will host “The Supreme Court and My Hometown,” an engaging civics education program for high school students, in collaboration with the Supreme Court Historical Society. This initiative offers two in-person sessions—June 9-13 and June 16-23 (only weekdays)—designed to deepen students' understanding of the U.S. judicial system. Through this program, participants will study a Supreme Court case originating from their hometown, analyze its constitutional implications, and examine its impact on the balance of government powers. Students will also develop capstone projects to promote awareness of the case’s significance, working closely with legal mentors, professors, and historians.
Each session provides students with a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on learning about the judiciary. By studying the procedural history and constitutional questions of a Supreme Court case originating in their hometown, students will gain insights into the judicial branch’s interactions with other government branches. Designed for current or rising 11th and 12th graders, the program aims to empower participants to appreciate the broader impact of landmark cases and inspire future civic engagement. Schools across the District of Puerto Rico are encouraged to apply early, as space is limited.
