Press Release: Héctor L. Ramos Vega is selected for the U.S. Magistrate Judge Position

HÉCTOR L. RAMOS VEGA IS SELECTED FOR THE UNITED STATES MAGISTRATE JUDGE POSITION

 

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO (June 26, 2023)- Chief Judge Raúl M. Arias-Marxuach announced today that, on June 23, 2023, the Judges of the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico selected Héctor L. Ramos Vega to serve as Magistrate Judge for the District of Puerto Rico. Attorney Ramos Vega will fill the magistrate judgeship position vacated upon the appointment of Judge Camille L. Vélez-Rivé as a District Judge on December 9, 2022.  

 

Attorney Ramos Vega was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.  In 1999, he obtained a bachelor's degree in Humanities magna cum laude from the University of Puerto Rico. In 2002, he received his Juris Doctor magna cum laude from Western Michigan University Cooley School of Law.

 

He began his legal career when he joined the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico as a Law Clerk to U.S. Magistrate Judge Justo Arenas. In 2005, he joined the Federal Public Defender’s Office as an Assistant Federal Public Defender where he also held several supervisory roles including First Assistant, a position he held until March 2023, when he was appointed Interim Federal Defender.

 

The announcement of Ramos Vega's selection culminates a broad search process that commenced in December of 2022. Attorney Ramos Vega will be appointed to the bench upon completion of a background clearance and other administrative matters.
