PRESS RELEASE

United States District Court and United States Probation and Pretrial Services Office of Puerto Rico to Work from Alternate Locations

August 28, 2023 (San Juan, PR): All personnel for the United States District Court and the United States Probation and Pretrial Services Office for the District of Puerto Rico who work in the Federico Degetau Federal Office Building will work from alternate locations as of Tuesday, September 5, 2023. Engineering studies commissioned by the General Services Administration (GSA), which owns the facility, have indicated that, although the building can support typical occupancy loads at full capacity, it does not meet relevant seismic criteria. While GSA continues its assessments of the building, going forward, court proceedings will continue normally at the Clemente Ruiz Nazario and Jose V. Toledo U.S. Courthouses.

Further details will be shared with members of the bar and public as they are developed. The First Circuit Court of Appeals and the District Court for the District of Puerto Rico remain committed to working closely with the GSA and the Executive Branch to ensure that the mission of the courts is fulfilled while conditions are further assessed. Please contact Chief Deputy Clerk Jorge Soltero Pales, Esq., at 787-772-3018 or jorge_soltero@prd.uscourts.gov for additional information.
